Paphos – A Harbour For All Seasons

It is small wonder that Paphos is one of the most popular locations in all of Cyprus. Its harbour alone is quite stunning and always offers something to look at. The Paphos region is to the west of Cyprus, with Paphos itself right on the coast. The harbour itself is filled with boats of all kinds, some tiny and some rather bigger. There is arguably nothing better than sitting back with a drink and watching the boat owners go about their daily tasks at the laid back pace you can expect in most parts of Cyprus.

It may once have been nothing more than a fishing village with not much going on. But the tourists have discovered the area and since then it has developed into an even better place to be. Many holidaymakers head here for their holidays and base themselves in this location. No matter what you want to eat you’ll find it in any number of restaurants and bars here. You won’t fail to be taken in by the atmosphere and the walks you can indulge in around the harbour itself.

But when you visit Paphos you aren’t just getting somewhere with a nice harbour, some beaches and the chance to take a dip in warm seas. There is plenty more to discover in the surrounding area as well, and this is part of what makes it an attractive place to go to.

You cannot miss the castle of Paphos, a foreboding and blocky looking building right on the harbour itself. It dates back hundreds of years although in its earliest days it was much bigger than the remains you will see today.

Perhaps the best part of visiting the castle in Paphos harbour is the fact that you can get an amazing view right from the very top. Take some water as it is quite a climb, but it is well worth the effort. The castle is definitely a significant sight to see in Paphos, and it stands as a monument to times gone by. In a way, the same applies to Paphos itself as well.
