According to a report from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), the creation of casinos in Cyprus is a 'necessary evil'.

After the report, conducted by the CTO, it appears that 1,000 Greek Cypriots travel to the north each day to visit the casinos in the occupied areas, with this figure increasing to about 1,700 during the weekend.

On average, each person spends £92 during each visit, more than is spent by the Turkish elite - for whom the casinos were originally created as it is illegal for Turkish Cypriots to gamble at the casinos. On the whole, Greek Cypriots spend around £30 million a year during their visits.

It is not only on this that the CTO has reportedly decided that the creation of casinos would be beneficial, they could also act as a further tourist attraction to the island.

The introduction of two types of casinos is being examined, with two 'exclusive purpose' and one 'resort' casino deemed as the ideal combination for the island.
